Hi All I recently purchased an A.W.S. FILLET GAGE AT&SF Ry. It is stamped with sizes from 5/32 to 1/2 It is also stamped CORRECT ENG TEST 1-11-41. Has anyone seen one before? Robby Peartree |

AWS is American Weld Society. These gauges are common and used to check weld size. AWS is not the manufacturer but rather the standard to which the gauge is made. The AT&SF was probably a standard stamp that all new shop tools got to keep employee theft under control. The engineering test likely indicates that the gauge adheres to a standard set forth by the engineering department. Most likely a gauge used in quality control or by supervision to ensure that a welder's welds were up to snuff. I would love to see a picture. BTW I may be full of crap as I have no internal knowledge of the AT&SF operations, I based my assumptions on 20+ years of being a machinist and occasional fabricator and also quality control person. Depending on the job I had at the time. |

Correct by the ATSF Engineer of Tests on the date stamped. All gauges and trams were checked for accuracy on delivery and then periodically throughout the service life of the device. A neat find. |

Interesting that it is for concave welds only. Probably had another gauge in the set for convex. I am betting that the convenient holes were added to check what size rod you were using. |
