There are three former Pittsburgh PCCs currently available for sale. These are located in north central Ohio not far from Columbus.

One car is an air/electric type. This car is partly restored but there remains a substantial amount of work to complete. Many of the electrical items are restored but not mounted on the car.

The other two are all-electrics. One is in rather poor condition and should be regarded as a parts source only. The other all-electric is in much better condition, having had an extensive rebuild done just prior to 1990.

As with any Pittsburgh cars, they are broad gauge (62.5"). All three are Westinghouse equipped. They have been stored indoors since the 1990s.

If you have a realistic interest, PM me and I will put you in contact with the owner, who does not frequent this forum.

I have no personal interest in the cars, only wishing to see them escape the cutting torch if possible.

Would these be some of the Buckeye Lake PCC's, visible from along I-70E?

Buckeye Lake? Nope. These cars are elsewhere, stored indoors, and in appreciably better condition than any of the rust buckets that were parked outdoors at Buckeye Lake. (Many of those have been put out of their misery, while others have finally gone indoors.) Seriously interested parties can contact the owner of these three cars through Dave Hamley, above.

If you are curious but not seriously interested. the cars are listed in Frank Hicks' PNAERC database under Penn Ohio Electric Railway.

Interesting article about Ed Metka that has been collecting PCC's for years. Apparently some cities are putting them back in service.

Autopsy of Architecture: Where trolleys go to die?

Autopsy of Architecture: Where trolleys go to die and live again.

Over 45 PCC (Presidents' Conference Committee) streetcars sit quietly in the rural woods of Windber, PA, roughly 80 miles east of Pittsburgh. The Autopsy of Architecture photographs taken a day after Winter Storm Jonas rolled through the northeast, capture what appears to be a graveyard for trolleys. However, they are a place where streetcars wait in hopes of being put back into service. They also represent one man's attempt to preserve an important element of America's public transit history.

Rest of article here along with 2 pages of pictures and some videos.

That Windber PCC "store" seems to surface on here quite regularly. Apart from the Kenosha ones mentioned in the article - which must have been sold 18 years or more ago as the line opened in 2000, does anyone know if he has actually sold any to anybody else?
I've seen vehicles restored from worse states, but they all seem in fairly dire condition now. It's only a wise investment if you actually manage to have some turnover of your "stock" to make it all worthwhile.....

The only recent sale from the Windber "collection" of which I am aware was the trucks from all of the Shaker Heights cars, sold around 2010-11 for non-PCC use. That has left the bodies of these cars in various positions, including car 89 which is completely upside down. Like the rest of the cars long stored outdoors, they are in scrap condition.
