The Illinois Railroad Museum Diesel Department Facebook just posted a video of ATSF FP45 92 running for the first time since the mid 90's after being sent out for work at NRE in Silvis, Illinois.

You must be logged on to Faceplant or the video won't work.

Good to see it running. Quite a lot of expensive work to get it running, including a main gen if I recall.

That's interesting because I didn't need to log in on either my phone or my laptop in order to watch the video.

The "loading" symbol just spun for me until I logged on.

Must this discussion come up every time someone posts a Facebook link?

We get it, some folks don't care for it.

But many, many others do, and for them, it's quite useful.

Where did I say all of that? I am on it all the time, in fact I am on it right now on another tab. I am ambivalent about it in general, especially the tracking that goes on there (thus the Faceplant name), but my comment was for those who don't have it or aren't logged on so they will understand why the video isn't working..

Why do people insist on discriminating against potential supporters by only using Facebook. It seems some want to impose the borgue of social media on everyone.

So there is an operating FP45??

Video problems aside, where is the other one at?

Can't be many of those left!

With Facebook it's fairly simple.....

If the site is "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC" and the videos or photos are posted by the site owner (railroad, museum or whatever) you will have no trouble and can see all videos and photos posted, regardless if you have a FB account or not.

The only time you MUST be signed in to view photos or videos or even the comments is if the poster to the Facebook site has their settings "private". This happens often when "Joe Smith > posts to ABC Railroad Museums" FB Page and Joe Smith's settings are private. You will then only be able to see a the preview photo. Even so, there are the occasions where the poster's settings are so private you won't see any photo on the public site, and it will tell you so.

If I remember correctly the prime mover had major freeze damage and was junk, the main generator had a bad bearing that had destroyed it and a some wiring was cut. So a prime mover from an SP SD45 along with a generator and wiring work.
This is an engine that I had hoped would be made operable for years and now it is! Congratulations to the team and for the donations to make it happen!

Yes, with the SP prime mover, it is now an SP-SF engine.
Also got a rebuilt air compressor in place of the extremely broken/incomplete one it had.

Wikipedia says Santa Fe FP45 97 is operational at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in California.

I would love to see the Frisco and the OKC group get theirs operational as well.

Minor correction: OERM has 98 and the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco has 97. When I volunteered there about a decade ago, the word was that 97 didn't need that much work, with the biggest thing being a new turbocharger. There was a brand new turbocharger from Union Pacific still in the crate but no work was ever done to install it. I suppose that now most of their energy is going towards getting the new site up and going, so who knows if anything will ever happen to 97.

They're not discriminating by using a tool that's easy to use.

The same thing could be said for "why are they discriminating against the illiterate by writing?" or "why are they discriminating against the blind by posting photographs?".

I didn't mean to offend PMC, but I was hoping to get people to think twice before knee-jerk anti-facebook comments.

IRM just doesn't use Facebook, so there is no discrimination here.

If you prefer, you can join IRM and get their excellent magazine Rail & Wire. I believe there is going to be an upcoming article on the work to the 92.

Of course, news doesn't disseminate as fast via print, so please don't complain.
