Sad news to report: Dave Kornfeld died on or about August 20, 2017, in Pittsburgh, Pa., of an apparent heart attack. He was 60 years old.

A Long Island, NY native, Dave was intensively interested in, and involved with, diesel electric locomotives. A long-time member and active participant at Railroad Museum of New England, he was involved with most of RMNE's diesel power over the last 30 years. His knowledge and ability, especially in the realm of locomotive electrical systems, was simply huge.

Dave's career included a stint as an EMD field service rep on the LIRR, and later at Conway, Pa. for EMD. He lived the last 5-6 years in Pittsburgh as a result of that Conway assignment.

His interests were quite diverse, and he could converse intelligently and passionately about automobiles, politics, music, photography and art, and human behavior.

Photos show Al Galanty (seated) and Dave Kornfeld on board New Haven RS-3 529 in 2008, and Dave enjoying WMSR 2-8-0 734 in 2011 (yes, he had an appreciation for big steam locomotives), photo by Scott Snell.

He was one of our "Band of Brothers", and will be sorely missed. A good friend and a good man, gone too soon.

Too soon indeed, even though I never met him.
