Do any of your know if the order books or construction records from 1874/5 of Andrew Carnegie's Pittsburgh Locomotive & Car Works have been preserved? if so, where are they domiciled?

If you are looking for construction numbers of locomotives built by Pittsburgh then the answer is yes.
What do you want to know ?

Kevin,

Pittsburgh constructed one or two small locomotives for Lake View & Collamer, a small line on the east side of Cleveland. Seeking any of the usual data on the order(s), builders #, wheel arrangement, wgt, etc... and if the builder followed up with their sale(s) to other locomotive users.

I looked it up in my ALCO Pittsburgh records and I found nothing at all. I even tried looking for them in the ALCO Brooks records; nothing.
Could they have been built by another builder ?

Kevin,
My question was based upon a Cleveland newspaper report, and since the reporter used Pittsburgh locomotive, I started with that. Perhaps the reporter did not get it right and meant H. K. Porter, another Pittsburgh locomotive manufacturer? If he was mistaken, do Porter records exist?

Yes they do, they are in the volume that the National Model Railroad Association published on H.K.Porter https://www.amazon.com/Porter-Steam-Loc ... 0964705036

Oops! Not the Globe Locomotive Works of Boston but the Globe Iron Works of Cleveland. All three simply listed as "dummy".

Kevin, do you have anything on the Cleveland Terminal and Valley Railroad's 4-6-0's built by the Pittsburgh in 1897? They were numbered from 31-37. Looking for specs, build date, and construction numbers.

Thanks John!

The Valley Railway had 4-4-0s built by Baldwin numbered from 3-9 in 1878-1880. There appears to be a gap for 4-4-0s numbered 10-12, which seem to be built by a different company in 1880 or 1881. I have a photo of #11 attached, and was wondering maybe you or someone else could help me identify who built it. My thoughts are either Pittsburgh or Hinkley.

Matt
