On 9/4/17 it was reported in "El Paso, Inc" that the 1903 El Paso & Southwestern depot was in foreclosure and to be auctioned. The report also stated the El Paso Railroad Museum was interested in owning it.

Today, 9/11/17, it was reported by the same source that the building was sold at the auction. No mention was made of the railroad museum.

Below is a photo of the building from the Preservation Texas website:

The building was sold but dealing with law suits from the previous owner. I meet with the new owners in El Paso while I was there for the public display of 3420. They have some interesting plans for the interior and exterior but no plans that would harm the building the way the previous owner tried to do. In other news the Former EP&SW headquarters building sold.

Downtown is a continual mess. UP is about out of the old Dallas Street Yard. It is amazing to see the changes.

Glad to hear the building won't be harmed.

I keep one eye on El Paso news. The politics give me a headache. I see that the Mayor and City Council are mainly interesting in new development to "revitalize" the downtown. Preservation of history and culture don't seem to be a priority for them.

For example, the planned arena will wipe out El Paso's oldest neighborhood that dates back to the frontier era and the Old West. I think destroying the historic bones of the city is a mistake. A neighborhood with that much history should be restored and made into a historic district. It could be big tourist draw some day.

I also noticed the planned Children's Museum won't be a history museum. I looked at the architects' proposals. It looks like it will be about interactive exhibits and activities for kids.

Last I read, the El Paso Railroad and Transportation Museum found a place in an old Elementary school building (Alamo School). I wonder if they are still open?
