IRM diesel team has secured a loan to ensure the purchase of the 800 from the Morristown and Erie. They had until the end of this month to complete the purchase. Fund raising efforts continue to repay the loan.

Happy to hear, but this is certainly one of the quietest fundraising efforts I have seen..

Yes, the engine was saved and will be going to Illinois Railway Museum.

Those folks at the IRM continue to amaze us; with a little money, they can do wonders. The recent progress on the ATSF FP45, the work on restoring the Rock Island Geep, the future work on the ATSF RSD15 "gator", you name it, they have a lot going on. And then there's the steam shop and their successes....

Not to mention all the streetcar, L car and interurban car restorations. IRM can field 2 4 car CA&E trains. 4 steel and 4 wood. Including one of the original 1902 cars.

The wood work that goes on at the museum is amazing! Nearly any railroad car has some wood parts up to complete wood cars.

I wish I was a rich man who can fund big projects!

But I will have to just be a regular member; who admires the work!

Dan -

I'm assuming by the comment noting "the Rock Island Geep", that you are referring to C&NW GP7 #4160. This locomotive was supposedly purchased as a parts source, but then IRM actually got it running about 8 or 10 years ago. I never heard whether the "parts source" plan was still in place or whether it was going to be restored to service. Now by your comment, I'm wondering if it is to be restored back to its original Rock Island heritage? I looked on the IRM website and yes, it appears that it is being worked on, but didn't see how it was going to be repainted. Maybe I missed that info somewhere. Can you, or someone, advise what IRM is doing with it? Thanks.

They are currently working on Rock Island 4506, which would be one of the rebuilt Geeps painted in the Ingram blue scheme. I'm not sure but it may be one that C&NW picked up after the Rock's liquidation:
