Post subject:  A wreck derrick in a park

On a recent trip, I stopped overnight at Winslow, Arizona. While the railroad has changed this community is still a crew change location on the BNSF. It is also the location of the revived former Fred Harvey hotel "La Posada."

As a former AT&SF division point, it might be expected that there should be a locomotive displayed in a park. That is not the case.

A downtown park was developed in 2004 and is located next to the railroad. It has three cabooses, a wreck derrick and the accompanying boom car. The wreck derrick is #199796 and it is marked as being formerly assigned to Amarillo, Texas. The boom car is #190284. The cabooses are 999282, 999179 and 999146.

Elsewhere in town is a new visitors' center that is make to look like a trading post that once served the area. Next to that building is a former Santa Fe box car.
