New York Supreme Court judge ruled today "to completely annul and vacate the work by project developers" on removing the tracks and building a trail. The ruling is not kind to the state and those involved. Details in several places, but here is a start.

Another newspaper just updated with a link to the actual order (a long read).

Interesting when the judge called the plan "irrational and nonsensical" and "it is, thus, likewise undisputed that the 2016 UMP is based upon mistaken information, assumptions, and beliefs."

Read the comments to the paper...boy the trail folks just plain hate railroads.

Yikes those trail folks sound unpleasant. I didn't know there were people who would campaign for a paved trail with no challenge whatsoever. Sounds like you'll get just the greatest kick from your speed walking routine you're trying to get into. (If you ask me, I suggest the trail people actually climb the mountains instead of just looking at them).

Oh my, they've been like that for years! And in some ways what you are seeing is mild compared to what we've seen before, and not just here!

Just check out these cartoons from the Facebook site of Trail Now, which wants to see the railroad in Santa Cruz go away.

I've been following these and other rail vs. trail fights, and it seems you see the same stuff over and over.

You can understand how I've come to have a low opinion of the trail crowd.

How serious is the bid effort for the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid in 2026? I would think the railroad could be a major part of the bid effort.

As a reference, here's the court decision itself.

I wouldn't hold my breath because there isn't enough housing in the area.

Chances are if there is a US bid, it would be for Park City, Utah.
