In a thread that got shunted off to the Railfanning board, I asked about DB class 103 preservation and was told there are 17 103s still existing in various states.

Can anyone provide more information? Thanks.

Haven't seen anything mentioned about it lately, but up to 2 years ago there was still regular work booked for a 103 in the Munich area - mainly at weekends, from memory - on selected trains. 103 113 & 103 245 were regulars on this at the time, the workings being designed to keep them in an "active" state.
Something similar happens here in the UK where the AC Traction group preserved Class 86 & 87 electrics do see use on non-passenger empty sleeper stock workings in the London area, and have been known to make occasional runs to Scotland if the train operator is short of the regular power!

103 245 has been "active" in the Munich area for a while, as I found this photo I took through the train window outside Munich Hbf in May 2013........

There is another 103 which is based in Cologne for use on special trains as well - a matching liveried rake of stock being kept there - and it can normally be seen from trains running between Koln Hbf & Koln West.

This should answer your query..............

https://europeantraction.com/2017/03/30 ... find-them/

Looks like the regular diagrammed work finished early last year.

Thanks. I'm glad a few examples were saved. Back in the day, the 103 was the face of DB.
