Post subject: Help save the C&TS
PostPosted: Fri Feb 05, 1999 5:04 pm

It is clear to those who have been following the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic debacle that the C&TS needs a substantial infusion of cash, and it needs it now. I'd like to ask that everyone who cares about the C&TS write, email, call, or fax their respective Federal and State congressmen and senators NOW, requesting funds to fix this problem. It's particularly important that those of us who live in Colorado and New Mexico appeal to our respective officials, although appeals from other states will certainly help.
To find out how to contact your Senators, go to: http://www.senate.gov/
To find your Representative, got to: http://www.house.gov/
Constituents of Colorado can find their elected officials at: http://www.state.co.us/
Constituents of New Mexico can find theirs at: http://www.state.nm.us/

The House and Senate intend to adjourn for the year on Friday, Oct. 29th so time is of the essence.
The only thing that gets their attention (other than cash contributions) is LOTS of mail on a particular issue.
Based on what I've read and heard, we need $3,000,000 to fix the track and repair the locomotives. Given the way politics works, we should probably ask for $6,000,000 and we may get $3,000,000.
Please help get their collective attention. If enough of us do this, we can right this ship in a hurry.
Thank you,
Matt Hutson
Glenwood Springs, CO

i had the opertunity to talk to the shop foreman and he told me in june that they had recently recieved a istea grant to replace the ties
as for the rest of the improvments they were attempting to to what was necesary to get the locomotives going as for them hiring and ppl leaving that is not to my knowledge true or false . the railroad needs a infusion yes but it also needs a realistic budget that alows it to operate on its own or with a set subsidy from the states that own it to get it buy in the skinny years. truelly Dan Moore
