Post subject: | CB&Q 5632 Question |
Hi, I recently purchased a slide off of eBay showing Burlington's 4-8-4 #5632 inside of a shop undergoing her rebuild that was never completed. The slide is dated 9-26-1965. I'm aware that Richard Jensen acquired and moved the engine to his roundhouse that year. So, with that being said, was the photo of the engine taken at the CB&Q's facilities or Jensen's roundhouse? Thanks, Thomas Dyrek |

WAG. Without seeing the photo, West Burlington Shops started rebuild which was cancelled by new president of CB&Q. Locomotive and parts subsequently purchased by Jensen. |

A couple shots at the C&WI roundhouse. 4963 was nearby and 4070 in the house.

She was reassembled and run after this photo was taken, correct? |

No, never reassembled, and was cut up looking like this (and with trailing truck cut off at the scrapyard after derailing on their lead track). The entire new firebox was fitted up and tack-welded in place, awaiting the application of the new staybolts, crates of which filled the cab (Flannery Bolt Co's last order for steam loco staybolts before going out of business). Jensen never owned a roundhouse. He leased or rented one, but that resulted in a court battle, which he lost, and resulted in scrapping of 5632 and tons of parts. |

Then these two pictures are the only I know of, showing 5632 before destruction. BTW, once the court proceedings were completed, iirc, Jensen was awarded damages for the wanton destruction, but of course, it was a hollow victory. |

About a year or so ago I saw a post over on trainorders.com of a couple color photos of 5632 and I believe 4963 in 1969 in the roundhouse. Otherwise these are the only photos like you said of 5632 like this. EDIT: Thread on TO is "Ed Dickens is the next Dick Jensen". Pics are on page 2 and dated May 3rd, 1969. 5632 and 4963 are in Roundhouse. |

The rest. Not real sure how to post multiple images, or ideal size, but here they are. What a day!
