Just as a note: you can, and should, contribute toward the Q Hudson restoration - if you mark your check accordingly, a donation will be specifically earmarked for that project. I have done so and plan to do so again later this year. This locomotive is much more significant than '100mph steam'. If I remember correctly its class was dynamometer-proven at over 112mph, which is a whole different category of high-speed steam. While I doubt a restored example would be allowed to romp at that speed ... the principle of having it 'testable' is still important. |

I think the overall purpose of this topic has been lost: trying to identify where the slide was taken. If it would help, here is a scan of the slide. Perhaps the floor or what appears to be a skylight on the roof would help identify whether the image was taken from the CB&Q's West Burlington Shops or at the 47th Street Roundhouse in Chicago. I'll stick with my W Burlington Shops guess based on a fading memory of a shot in Trains Mag. The shot indicated (to me), the tear down had begun before Menk pulled the plug. |
