Connecticut Southern had two SD9's working a few years ago and although I haven't heard anything about them I think they are still around but may be stored. With G&W taking over many of the shortlines I don't think they are long for the roster.

Two SD9's I can submit for the record:

South Branch Valley 180 < Ex- B&LE 845 < Ex- DM&IR 118
South Branch Valley 181 < Ex- B&LE 844 < Ex- DM&IR 117

Both units out of service and stored at SBVR shop in Moorefield, WV since 2009. I've been told that they swapped numbers right after they were delivered in '03 or '04, but cannot confirm.

As a side note SD18 182 was still running until recently. May be sidelined after SBVR's purchase of a second GP38-3. 182 was B&LE 853, and was Bessemer's Bicentennial unit in the 1970's.

Here's one I think was missed:

SD7 IPPX 401 (nee-Nevada Northern 401).

While I can't find anything concrete, Google Maps imagery appears to still have it working as the intra-plant switcher.

Here is something at least a little more concrete on IPPX/NNRY 401:

http://utahrails.net/industries/ipp.php

Ironically, for having lived so close, and for so long, to this engine I've never actually seen it in person; however, a family member who works at the plant has told me they've seen it well-and-alive in operation around there, at least not too long ago.
With the plant's conversion from coal to natural gas in a few years, I wonder if that might have any effect on the need for an in-plant switcher? Either way, I can't help but wonder about it's future...

BNSF 6139, ex B&O 765, to POTB as 6139, on lease to Oregon Coast Scenic, may be operable.
BNSF 6143/1724, ex-B&O 771, to LTEX as 1724 in 2016? Status?
BNSF 6144/1725, ex B&O 763, to LTEX as 1725 in 2011. Still there in March 2018.
BNSF 6147/1726, ex B&O 761. to LTEX as 1726 in 2011. Disposition unknown.

The Port of Tillamook Bay railroad owns I believe 3 EX: BN SD9s (one being a chopped hood #6139) 2 are at the Tillamook Air Museum as of early 2017 and i believe one is at the Oregon Coast Scenic railroad. The Port of Tillamook Bay railroad is still a railroad but has seized operations on most of its lines because of the tracks being washed out completely multiple times a year in areas on their main line.

When I visited in August 2017, POTB #6116 and POTB #4406 were parked by the Air Museum.

Additional info and corrections:
BNSF 6139, SD9
BNSF 6143/1724, SD9, was originally B&O 772. May still be at Larry's.
BNSF 6144/1725, SD7, was originally B&O 763. May still be at Larry's.
BNSF 6147/1726, SD7, was originally B&O 761. Larry's resold to Trupointe Co-operative 2014, assigned to TruHorizon grain elevator in Milford, Ind. Don't know if still there.

Three rebuilt SP SD9s reside in Schellville, California on the former NWP. A 2017 photo confirms they are still there, in derelict condition.
-4347, ex-5385
-4436, ex-5415
-4451, ex-5339

SP SD9 4304 (ex-5366) sits stored in Willits, California

Rrpicturearchives.net shows SD7 BN 6009 at at grain elevator in Mattoon, IL up through 2011, and the trail goes cold. Does anyone know it’s status?

In Oregon's mid-Willamette Valley there are 3 SD9s and one SD7, all ex-SP, still earning revenue for their owners. Portland and Western Railroad (PNWR) regularly operates SD7 1501 as their yard switcher in the former SP Albany yard. SD9 1852 works in the former OE/BN yard in Albany. They also have SD9 1854 working out on the line.

The 3rd SD9 belongs to Albany and Eastern RR (AERC), 5399. 5399 is currently assigned as motive power on the railroad's "Santiam Excursion" train. Although if needed it will make a freight run or switch and industry.

Port of Tillamook Bay RR has two remaining SD9s. 6116 was cut up in the last couple of years. 6139 was briefly on loan to Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad until an electrical problem sidelined the loco. It is stored in Garibaldi, OR. 4406 is still at the POTB Industrial Park.

Minnesota Transportation Museum just received an ex Great Northern SD7 from a grain elevator. Still in GN paint it may be the most unfettered on the survivors
