According to OCSR's facebook the first of the cars arrived at the beginning of October, they described it as a "rescue mission" so I am guessing the YW circus has descended into potential scrapping.

It's more than potential. Everything related to the YW passenger operation has either been retrieved by the owners or scrapped. When I was last there in 2013, only the OCSR cars and the steam locomotive (under lock and key pending a sheriff's sale) remained.

Virtually all the trackage in Yreka proper save the main track was also pulled up and scrapped. This alarmed the townspeople and they got the STB involved to make sure the mainline wasn't scrapped without formal abandonment. There's no freight business on the line until you reach the Timber Products plant a couple of miles east of town.

Just for clarification, these cars were never actually owned by Yreka Western. Great Western Railway Museum (Fred Kepner) bought them from SP when they sold off their fleet of SP "subs" in the middle 1980s. This happened to coincide with the YW starting up their passenger excursions, and as the museum had no other immediate use for the cars, the two parties struck a deal under which the museum leased the three to the railroad. The YW as far as I know only ever used two of the cars, the body of the third rested on the ground just off the YW tracks a short distance south of the depot for about the last thirty years. YW made extensive use of the cars for the twenty five or so years the Blue Goose Excursion Train operated. OCSR acquired the cars around 2003 in exchange for helping the museum move the former Sierra #38 from McCloud, California, to Merrill, Oregon, though the cars remained in use on the YW. OCSR finally moved one of the cars north close to ten years ago, it's been in regular operation on the railroad since. It's now been finally joined by the other two.

Edited to include the following: in response to the question as to how much is left on the YW property, the answer is not much...at this point only the SW-900 #21 (yes, it was a SW-8 but it got an upgraded prime mover a decade and a half or so ago), the road's ex-Great Northern ore jenny, and a former SP economy baggage car the railroad got from CSRM a while back. Everything else has either been scrapped, repossessed, or now removed by owners.
