Key words- Amtrak. You can run special trains under Amtrak's authority wherever it might extend. Host railroad does have some say but not as much as you think. We moved our bilevels south this exact way. All we needed was CSX and NS to decline moving the cars in freight service. It was rather easy and Amtrak is actually very easy to work with.

Now, if it said STEAM powered, then CSX had a change of heart. Otherwise they are just following established agreements.

This in no way belittles the efforts of the historical societt in pulling this off. It still takes a lot of commitment, time, and energy.

But with the recent repaints of the C&O SD40, Chessie U-boat, Clinchfield F and Pennsy Sleeper, CSX has seemed to value their heritage a lot more than in recent years.

I certainly applaud CSX for a nod to their heritage, hence why it warrants a topic on RYPN.

However, I have been continuously amused, if not downright appalled by the shortsightedness those in the railfan community are showing as it relates to what CSX is currently doing to not only the industries it serves but employees as well. In fact, I feel the whole thing is in bad taste given the current state of the company.

Forgive me for bringing this back up, but I just came across this today. Has anybody else seen this on CSX.com?

That webpage has been up for at least a few months now. It's a nice start...

I didn’t know that page has been up for a few months. I’ll let this post die unless something substantial comes along. Sorry guys. This is still a great forum even though it seems like I’m late on a lot of info.

Maybe they'll add ACL #1901 when it's finished.

I will write them and say thanks for taking some notice of your proud heritage and inviting them to use anything on the www,co614.com site they want to speak to that engines role in their history.

Can't hurt, right ???

Happy New Year.

Might be mentioned that over on the NS side, the anticipation is that a continuation of 611 excursions will be under the Amtrak aegis ... I think this would be an interesting precedent for a counterpart on CSX trackage. Perhaps that ought to be a secret agenda for some in the preservation community, similar to what Mayor Jim Strickland in Memphis figured out about how to move the Confederate statues...?

Criticism of CSX will get you nowhere. Giving them credit for their acknowledging heritage will draw attention.

If the door is cracking open at CSX, ease it open a little bit more by thanking them for the steps they have made. Baby steps can turn into a full fledged run, but only on their time table. Do nothing to close the door that's ajar....
