folks, Does anyone know if the KCRM went out of business or what they changed their name to? The had at least two heavywight passenger cars in 1968. Ted Miles, heavyweight car fan |

Ted Miles, heavyweight car fan As a former member, I'm not so sure they "went out of business" so much as changed their mission and their location. They moved to a suburban location, sold or scrapped much of their equipment collection, and started running abbreviated tourist trains. |

Ted, here's a few photos of the Belton, Grandview & Kansas City taken in 2016 and 17 during work trips to KC. They have a nice little operation in Belton, and they do try to keep things looking good (winters are pretty harsh - 1630 was painted in the mid-2000s).

Jeff - Thanks for the photos. Did you get any of some of the other equipment they have? At one time, they had a very nicely painted drop bottom Union Pacific gondola, which is kind of a rare car in rail preservation circles. Just wondered how this other equipment was currently faring? Les |

Les In the early '80s, Union Pacific gave them an entire rotary snowplow support train. This included one of the 1949 Lima Shay rotaries, tender, fuel tank car, bunk car, kitchen car, coach, tool cars, and m/w cars, including that drop-bottom gondola. Everything except the plow itself was operable and fully equipped. They also had an exUP GTEL. During the upheaval (ca. late 1980's) the GTEL, the plow and it's tender went to IRM; AFAIK everything else was scrapped. Other equipment went other places but most of their roster ended up being scrapped to raise cash. Their focus changed from being a museum to being a tourist operation. 2 of the steam engines, the KCS observation, and a few other pieces were kept and moved to the new location. |

Geesh, that geep #102 has sure been places. If I recall correctly, that used to roam the rails of the Wilmington & Northern and Octoraro Branches of the Delaware Valley Railroad, based out of Kennett Square, Pa |

Les Is this the car Les, found on the facebook page Otto linked to? If so it looks like it made it to 2009 at least.

Ted - I may be wrong (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am), but I think this group once owned Frisco 2-8-2 #1352 that SLSF originally donated to Kansas City where it was put on display in Swope Park. The group "rescued" the Mike with the idea of restoring it to operation, but that went by the wayside. The engine ended up passing through a few hands and at last report, was still sitting in Taylorville, Illinois and owned by the organization that ended up with the Reading 4-8-4 that is now in Cleveland, Ohio. Not sure what the current story is with the 1352. Les |

If so, they had a collection of KCS passenger equipment including- Bag/RPO #6 Grill/Obs #55 “Hospitality”, originally-“Shreveport” Bag/RPO/Dorm #69, originally- #65 14-4 Sleeper “Harvey Couch” Coach #262, originally- 246. Later- LIRR 8564 Bag/RPO #30, originally- #60 note: I believe this car is running with an outfit in Baldwin, Kansas. Aside from the RPO #30, does anyone know the status of the rest listed above? |
