The J&L Narrow Gauge Railroad is still slowly expanding with some new trackwork being done as well as restoration of the 58 continuing. I am still confident that 58 will operate in 2018.

File comment: The newly fabricated pilot has been attached to the front of the J&L 58, and some pins and bushings on the running gear are being replaced in anticipation for the return of the boiler over the winter.

File comment: The first part of the curve has been constructed. 100RB rail and full size crossties cut in half are standard on this part of the railroad.

File comment: The J&L Narrow Gauge Railroad has been in search of a yard office/crew room and has found it in the form of a Lake Erie Franklin & Clarion bay window bobber caboose. The car has been purchased and will be moved to Youngstown in the spring.

File comment: This northward view give a good idea of the future of the J&LNG. The mainline will extend to the roadway next to the white building. A trailing point switch will come off and go to the left into a couple of storage tracks and a 9' diameter turntable. Another trailing point switch will come off to the right and go up the hill and possibly continue on eastward. To the right of the main between the crossing and the fence is where the LEF&C caboose will sit.

Great report, Rick. Be sure you take time to eat, breathe, and sleep, during 2018. I've never seen such a committed preservationist get things done!

Thanks! No time for any of those luxuries. Got to keep pushing to get the railroad running so that we can start generating a bit of a cash flow around here.

Wish me luck on my next endeavor. Convincing my wife that her car should stay outside of the garage for a few weeks while the saddle tank goes inside to get some holes welded up. This may be the most challenging part of the whole project! :)
