As I write this, I am sad to report that two former Penn Central / Conrail X62 Boxcars are meeting their demise today. For many years, these boxcars were parked at the former Reading Railroad Perkasie Freight Station; utilized by Shelly Lumber Company for storage of various materials. Shelly operated a large lumber yard and hardware store complex in the heart of downtown Perkasie. A combination of factors including a change in business model, closure of the lumber yard complex, the spotted lanternfly's arrival, and a desire to develop the land contributed to the demise of the cars. I grabbed a few shots but could not stomach watching the proceedings. I'm disappointed with myself in that I have lived here for over twelve years and never took shots of the cars. As such, I'm including a link to the only photo I could find online of the cars in better times. http://www.west2k.com/papix/perkasiefreight.jpg

Were they cut up by a scrapper, or the lumber yard? I know an organization that is looking for ABDW brake cores. |

How is it that we are seeing through the car in pic #3? Were the roof and side already gone? |

Worst part, these were available for a while. They sat on Sterlingrail for the longest time, with no specified price just make an offer. They would have to have been trucked out, which always seems to kneecap preservation efforts. http://www.sterlingrail.com/classifieds ... p?id=18899 Here's the listing, it's still up |

The first dumpster on site said "Geese Auto" which is a local scapper. The second dumpster placed said "Guida" on it. Hope that helps. |

The remnants of the car they cut up are 100% gone. No clue it ever existed. The second car, however, remains fully intact. Not sure for how long, though.....
