Words, music and photographs come together in a moving tribute to the Maine Central and the railroaders who made The Pine Tree Route what it was. http://thetracksidephotographer.com/201 ... n-stewart/ Edd Fuller |

Wow! John Stewart was an American original, and a vital voice for people who built America with their hands. He gave the Kingston Trio a new "ring" and built upon their amazing success after founding member Dave Guard became disenchanted with the group. Glad to see John mentioned in this forum. Thanks! |

John Stewart appreciated the royalties when the Monkees turned his "Daydream Believer" into a hit, but he sure didn't appreciate the way they changed the lyrics. They pretty much emasculated it when they substituted "Now you know how happy I can be" instead of the original "Now you know how funky I can be". He deserved to have a hit on his own, but it unfortunately eluded him. "July, You're a Woman"; "Mother Country"; "California Bloodlines"; "The Pirates of Stone County Road"; "Wheatfield Lady". All good stuff. But unfortunately I don't think he ever wrote a railroad song. Tom |

His one close hit as a single was "Gold", backed by Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. Of "Day Dream Believer", John said it paid for his house in Malibu, and then some! In this article, I take it John was an inspiration, but not involved musically. |
