Many years ago I visited Rick Franklin's yard at Lebanon, OR. This railroad contractor had purchased two wreckers. One, SP #7020, is now at Brooks, OR. The other was a UP 250 tonner and has now been repainted at RFRX 1001. The best match I can make is: Bucyrus-Erie 43893 04-31-47 250t SW Oregon-Washington Ry & Navigation #0310 Union Pacific #900310 (conv to diesel 1976) retired 02-02-02 & scrap From this photo: https://donstrack.smugmug.com/UtahRails ... -83tSnBD/A The boom construction and window configuration match. The other candidate is 36211 06-26-45 250t SW Union Pacific #044 to #03044 to #903044 (conv to diesel 06-75 retired 04-89 & scrap) https://donstrack.smugmug.com/UtahRails ... -Wvf6rP4/A but the windows don't match. Any ideas? |

Looks like it's the 900310. No railing on the top left corner eve of the roof like the other UP candidate. Though the orange one now has a hose reel on the underside of the base of the Boom and the boom tie-downs now have Springs in them where the 900310 did not originally. Stuff like that could change but no one would really change a window ,too much work, and besides what would be the point. Just my opinion. |

The crane in question is currently stored at the end of track behind the Rick Franklin Co. equipment yard. I had the opportunity today to get back and get a couple of photos for you. Here is an exterior photo and a photo of the builders plate. The flat car that was the boom tender for the crane was converted to an open air passenger car in 2014 for the excursion trains. There was also an ex-UP mail storage car with the crane which is also used on the excursion train.

Thank you Arron. That is the kind of evidence I like to see. Now one more piece of wrecker lore is pinned down. |
