I saw this cartoon this morning, and thought it might be applicable to the topic of railroad preservation. Some of the most promising and beloved projects have been discredited because of the thinking illustrated in the cartoon.
I'll leave it open to discussion, but please don't bash individual restorations by name. Rather, can we produce, perhaps, some guidelines to help restoration groups straighten the path and gain higher levels of success?

Isn't the NRHS working on a "Railroad History Procedure Manual" or do I have that confused with something else....
