About 9 years after it was donated to the Minnesota Transportation Museum by BNSF, GN 325 is due for its return to Great Northern "Big Sky Blue". MTM is raising funds to take GN 325 from BN Green, back into its appearance on the glory days of GN in the late 1960's. The famous "Big Sky Blue" paint scheme will be the result. In Big Sky Blue, 325 will be the only operational piece of railroad equipment in the world to wear these colors. It will also be the only Great Northern locomotive restored to the scheme. Our goal at MTM, is to have the 325 sent out for repaint the fall of this year. It will be unveiled in its new paint by summer 2019 if the funding is raised. The 2019 season will mark the 10th anniversary since BNSF donated the 325. Donations will be used to cover the expenses incurred to have sheet metal work completed, preparation, painting, and transportation costs both ways from the contractor's location. Any donations made are tax-deductible as the MTM is an established 501(c)(3) organization. Please help the Minnesota Transportation Museum return this historic locomotive to the appearance the so many remember from the 1960's. Update on 4/6: The Minnesota Transportation Museum has received direct donations to the Great Northern 325 paint fund, amounting to roughly $10,000! The generosity of GN rail enthusiasts has been overwhelming with the GoFundMe effort and the direct donations to MTM. Donations of $1 to $10,000 are welcomed and appreciated! The goal of having the funds raised by this fall to complete the Big Sky Blue project by next spring is right on time! Thank you again to those who have supported the effort.
