The Pacific Locomotive Association, operators of the Niles Canyon Railway, is announcing a 2-day Student Brakeman Training Class on Sat-Sun, July 14-15, 2018.
Are you one of the many men and women who are interested in becoming a Niles Canyon Railway Brakeman and Trainman? You will learn proper train handling skills and safety, work as a team with other train crewman, and enjoy the thrill and satisfaction of actual full-size railroad operations. No previous railroading experience is required; just the desire and ability to do something that is unique and is both fun and rewarding.
This Brakeman Training Class is designed to introduce train operations on the Niles Canyon Railway through a unique entry-level train crew volunteer opportunity. This class will increase your knowledge about safety, develop a new set of skills, and raise awareness for railroading in historic Niles Canyon and volunteering at NCRy.
Upon completion of the 2-day training class, you will receive a completion card and be eligible to volunteer and start working as a Student Brakeman on the Niles Canyon Railway. As your experience increases, you may be promoted to Brakeman and continue your experience and training to be considered for promotion to Conductor.
REQUIREMENTS
• Current Member of the Pacific Locomotive Association DBA Niles Canyon Railway, with signed liability waiver on file. (Membership is open to all, costs $48/year, join on website http://www.ncry.org --> Membership --> Become a Member)
• 18 years of age or older
• Must be physically able to climb up and onto railroad cars and equipment to perform Brakeman duties.
9:00 am – 4:00 pm, 2 Day Training Class Dates: Saturday July 14th (Classroom Session), and Sunday July 15th. (Hands-on Training)
Location: Niles Canyon Railway Brightside Railroad Yard
The is no cost for the class. Classroom materials and handouts will be provided.
Lunch will be provided on Saturday by the NCRy Commissary Dept.
