The RRMPA does indeed have both a PRR RPO and a PRR covered hopper. The RPO is an early wooden car, currently displayed on track five in the display hall. The covered hopper is an early steel car, class and number unknown to me, currently displayed on one of the turntable radial tracks.

H31 for the covered hopper outside. If memory serves it was MOW for Metro North.

Les, I think the Monon boxcar you referenced is stored on a siding with some other equipment north of town, so not being actually in the park, wouldn't be included in the auction.

AlcoGuy -

I had forgotten about that storage area north of Noblesville. Thanks very much for the reminder, and for the logical explanation.

The up coming auction is something of a disappointment really. I thought all of the diesels had been accounted for and would be moving on to new homes. I don't know about anyone else? I am tired of this saga.

For what it's worth, I decided to reach out to SMS Rail in NJ again about the Baldwin #99. I don't have much hope for it though. There has been a couple Baldwin switchers scrapped in recent years do to a lack of interest and the difficulty in finding parts for them.

Does anyone have a update on the equipment left in Noblesville?

Hopefully the remaining passenger cars and remaining locomotives made it out

I respectfully disagree with you here. Penn Central is part of our railroad history for good or bad. Without PC there would have been no Conrail which is a railfan favorite despite preserving the heritage of seven major Eastern railroads in the years after 1976.

Fixed that for ya!

While it would be nice to see the H34 go to a good home, there is already an H34 preserved at the RRMoPA. I believe there is another H34 preserved at the NCTM.

The major loss from this set, if they were to be scrapped, would be the GN steam generator and the NKP Baldwin. I think almost everything else here has a sister piece of equipment preserved somewhere.

Also, going off the Conrail comments. Conrail was both good and bad. For those who grew up along the PRR lines west, Erie, or the NYC Canada Southern, Conrail brought the end of the routes as mainlines. Mass consolidation and hard decisions left a horrid taste in the mouth of many. Additionally, not much got out to be preserved at the get-go when many of the 1st and early 2nd gen locomotives got the axe.

Conrail did save the general landscape of northeastern railroading. Conrail also came around to donating equipment after it was privatized. It's still fondly remembered by many as well.

So... back to the topic - Does anyone know what is the deal with this equipment? Did buyers eyes exceed their stomach? (able to buy but not to move?) Was there a deadline that has passed to get purchases out? any official word from the city of Noblesville?

I see the auction is less than a month out, again not much time to make plans. From the pictures it does not look like all the equipment still onsite is listed for auction, at least not yet. Also Ozark does not appear to list terms like how long buyers have to remove purchases.

" details please on this Baldwin engine"

This Baldwin VO was never an NHP locomotive, just painted like an NKP engine.

This Baldwin came from Crane Naval Depot in southern Indiana at a time when you could still move locomotive friction bearings.

This was a very good running locomotive, until they ran it in the snow and grounded out 2 traction motors. To the best of my knownledge, the traction motors have never been repaired.

The "NKP" 44 tonner was originally built for the Boyne City Railroad, correct?
