Ed, do you know if that list of equipment includes the pieces in Port Jervis? The RS-3, E unit and passenger cars there? Not sure if those are being handled separately from the Passaic pieces.

Yes it does.

Ed, what's your source for that?

Over on railpictures dot net, Ryan Schmelzer has posted several images of the equipment move, for example: Railpictures #727170

In this photo:

Note the light blue passenger car. My notes show that this is former Grand Trunk Western Instruction Car, as GTW 15046, Built 1929, Pullman Parlor-Lounge 891 "Wabascon Lake." This car was owned by GTW until about 2000.

The Canadian Trackside Guide lists this car as being privately owned in Candiac, QC, which I think is incorrect.

Here are some photos of the car in GTW service:

The GTW car is interesting.

GTW had a car in Port Huron until the mid-1990s that resembled this car, and was used for Santa visits and the like. The talk was that the PM 1225 group was going to get it, then I never heard about it again. There are a few Port Huron people on this site, such as T.J, Gaffney - maybe they could verify if this is the same car? If that isn't it, could it be ex-ArtTrain?

I hope that the workers who take up these rails wear hazmat suits. I wouldn't go near this property.

Chris.

Chris,

I think this is the same car you are thinking of. I remember hearing that at least a few groups in Michigan were actively interested in acquiring the car ... and then it ended up on the NY&GL where it has sat since then.

I can say that this isn't a former ArtTrain car - those are accounted for. This car has a rebuilt roof of a design that is specific to CN & GTW cars.

There was work done to the interior. A lot of wood work was done to the floor and walls and some electrical work. The plan was to make this car into a piano lounge car. I have no idea what the interior looks like now or if vandals got inside and had their way.

At the end of June, 2020 regarding the removal of remaining NY&GL equipment.

https://www.lohud.com/story/news/passai ... 798957002/

Has a decision been reached as to what equipment will not be retained by Operation Toy Train?

Kind of odd that a DM&E covered hopper was in the mix of cars! A long way from home.

Hi guys.... We've got another thread over at http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44675 that should probably answer all of your questions. In short, we're waiting to hear about the equipment in Passaic and in Port Jervis.

(The GTW car is, unfortunately, in terrible shape. Part of the roof caved in - I know, I was surprised too - in the early 2010s and it has been open to the elements since.)

The video posted to this article shows the interior of the GTW car. It is gutted out, and vandalized. I expect all this equipment to get scrapped in the near future, unless someone wants to truck it out.

I doubt all of it will be scrapped, it would depend on how up to date the COTS is for all of it to be saved including the marginal car you mention. I think there would be demand for the Alco FA, and one in worse shape was moved from on the ground in a dirt lot in NJ to the D&GV via CSX earlier this year. The DM&E hopper car is likely interchange-ready as is, and CP probably will want it back. The GP-9 might have demand also, there is a lot more demand for those than for, say, the newer six-axle GEs at NRE awaiting disposition right now.

FINALLY I can make the formal announcement!

Operation Toy Train has officially and legally acquired all 13 pieces of historic former NY&GL railroad equipment located on the Dundee Spur. Several pieces of this equipment will be used on OTT's annual Toys for Tots collection train and for display at the proposed Port Jervis Transportation Museum. Visit https://www.operationtoytrain.org/newrailcars to read the full press release and learn about the plans for each piece of equipment!

For those who don't read the whole of the appended press release, these important words:
Quote:
“Our goal is to make sure that all of the equipment ends up in a good home, including the pieces that we are not planning to keep,”
