The original Valve Pilot/Speed Recorder of Maine Central 470 was severely vandalized while standing as a park feature for 62 years. Presently, we have a mechanical engineering student rebuilding the mechanism and replacing the missing and damaged parts. This is being done both from technical drawings and photos, as well as mathematical wizardry. Much has been done to date, but he requires some internal measurements and photos to press forward to completion. I should add, the student is versed in rebuilding clock mechanisms, and has fabricated replacement pieces using 3D printing prior to cutting replacements using water jets.

If you have a Valve Pilot/Speed Recorder in your locomotive or collection and can make the time to collect information along with images, please PM or email me newenglandsteamcorp@gmail.com for a list of what's specifically required.

Thank you.

That is very impressive to hear.

This is where we are with the valve pilot restoration: I need a scan, a nice flat scan of the plate on the front of the mechanism. This means the plate showing calibrations.

Can anybody help with this? Please send the scan to newenglandsteamcorp@gmail.com .

Thanks!
