Totally unofficial, but I had the opportunity to inspect the locomotive as a guest of the railroad, last week. Cab is off, backhead is stripped, tender is outside. It appears the firebox is getting very direct care.

Great pictures Richard, and thanks for taking them. Lately I've been looking at pictures from various groups overhauling and getting their locomotives to run again; and I thought to myself "how many of them yell ITS ALIVE!!! all Frankenstein like when the light them up for the first time after being put back together"?

Indeed the boiler is the focus at this time for its 1472 day inspection and new Form 4. The current goal is a mid to late 2017 fire up.

This is a dead horse that has been beaten MANY times, but not much has been said about the 2102 since late 2017 or early 2018. Has any progress reports or has anyone gotten photos since then? I heard of a 2018 fall fire up, then a 2019 fall fire up. The 2018 fireup never happened, but is one scheduled? I know the RBMN steam team is very hush hush about the project.

It’ll get done when it gets done. RBMN can choose whether or not to show how they’ve progressed, so eh, we’ll find out when it’s near done most likely.

Can't imagine why any body would be "hush hush" about a restoration in progress? Sarcasm intended. Wish them well in journey back to steam with the #2102. Regards, John.

It's not complicated. The R&N RR is an autocracy in the finest sense of the term. Andy Muller is the sole stockholder and thus the sole decision maker on all matters from ordering more paper clips to buying locomotives and everything in between.

2102 will be done when Andy says so. Pure and simple.

There's a group on Facebook dedicated to the Reading & Northern that has some recent pics of 2102. From what they show, it looks like most of the flexible staybolts have been installed. The most recent pics I've seen (March 29) showed that they were riveting the mud ring.
