Post subject:  Alco Switcher Control Stand Tag - Need ID help

I am in the process of reproducing a full set of control stand ID tags for my RS1. The below images are from an Alco switcher reverser and my RS1's throttle/reverser top. I am looking to find out if anyone has an inkling about what the circular tag on the controllers originally were (assuming they were probably the same)? Mine was obliterated over time, and I have not found any original Alco documentation to give an idea of what it was. Without any firm confirmation I will proceed with using a circular GE logo. Please let me know if anyone can ID what this tag originally was. Thanks

Fred

It is the GE company logo ("ge" in script) inside a circle. Around the symbol are the words "GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY ".
I would have taken a photo but the tag on our S1 was very worn and painted over.

Thank Len and Brian, would still love a photo no matter how bad the logo might look. Brian is it basically like this? I could really use a drawing / photo to get the composition correct.... appreciate the help !

Fred

PS If anyone is looking to get replacement tags I could easily add to my order....

That's it, but you need to rotate the words clockwise so that General Electric is in the top half, and Company is centered in the bottom half. I will try to get a photo.

I scratched as much paint off as I could to get you a photo. Not great, but I hope it helps.

Brian thanks, this helps a lot. Guess I had the colors reversed, it should be white letters and outlines on black background.....probably along the lines of this, although I need to clean this up before producing. Thanks for the assistance. PM me if you want a tag to replace yours. I am hoping to have a sample next week.

There also seems to be a few numbers before the word "Company". 26288 maybe?

Yes looks like it. Also a "Made in the USA" to the right...

N.P 26288? What's the N.P., number plate?

Correct NP seems to mean nameplate as best I can tell. I am in the process of making new nameplates for the control stand as I rebuild it, and I am still tweaking the graphics prior to finalizing and producing the new ones. I have yet to find the nameplates themselves listed as a part in my Alco parts books, so I am just working off my originals. Some of the NP numbers are nearly obliterated and are best guesses, but the side and front plates seem to have corresponding number series, so I am probably close to correct on even the worst ones. You can see the NP in the above example which is about the most legible one I have. I have been applying new plates to the electrical components as I go through them as well (see the reverser plate example), again as the originals are in bad shape or non-existant. But I am also trying to improve the plate designs as I go. The electrical plates are high temp plates so they should fare better over time than the originals did. The control stand plates should be good approximations although embossed plates like the originals will probably be out of the question due to tooling costs. My nameplate guy thinks he can reproduce plates that provide a similar raised letter effect as the embossed originals, so we'll see how they look. I am waiting on samples. In the mean time if anyone has an Alco switcher and can provide the NP numbers on their nameplates I'd appreciate the chance to cross reference what I have. My RS-1 is MU equipped and built to PRR spec, so I am not sure the nameplates are all corresponding to more standard Alco designs.

I imagine etching might be the best way to replicate the plates in a cost effective manner?
