Sounds pretty smart to me. They should work every angle they can to maximize the return on the money spent in the steam program. The larger the loyal audience, the stronger the future of the program.

As per a very quick conversation with Ed Dickens today, I was asked to let folks know that the UP Steam Club is not intended to offer a running documentary of everything that is being done on the 4014, or to function as a "Facebook group". No doubt somebody will be producing a pro video on the restoration, but the fellas working on the locomotive can't do that at the same time they are doing their jobs.

One of the main reasons for establishing this page is that the stampede is becoming a chore to manage, with thousands of people all wanting to know the same things, and only a limited number of guys on the steam crew. As you might imagine, they've still got PLENTY to do besides answering questions from the multitudes.

UP has always been a good neighbor and a good host. Please allow me to suggest that we all be good guests by being patient, and waiting for the official announcements via the UP website, UP Steam Club, and Promontory celebration website.

Thank you Les, but maybe I didn't explain things as clearly as I should have...

I think the general idea is that signing up for the UP Steam Club will get you on the Cheyenne Steam Shop email notification list.

If you want to do the facebook thing, then you will need to sign up separately for it, or so it seems to me.
