Milwaukee Road Buffeteria 126 still needs your help. Thank you so much to those who have donated so far to get us just past the $2,500 mark! There's still a long way to go to reach our $25,000 goal, but we can accomplish this with your help. Please consider a donation, and help us out by spreading the word to Facebook friends and those not on it. The $25,000 goal will go towards shipping 126 to Union, IL and the beginnings of a restoration to 1964 UP Yellow.

MILW 126 was built in 1948 by the Milwaukee Shops of the Milwaukee Road as a standard 48-seat diner. In 1964, along with 2 sister cars, 126 was rebuilt as a 32-seat 'Buffeteria' diner- a buffet-cafeteria configuration still in use today by Amtrak. Upon retirement from the Milwaukee Road in 1971, 126 was sold to a private owner, and was resold in the mid 90s. The car's current owner is donating the car to IRM, but we need your help to get 126 to Union.

Was this car owned by Coe Rail in Michigan back in the 1990s? If not, who owned this car after the MILW sold it off?

The COE car was ex MILW 165, a Tap-Lounge built in 1948, and is currently privately owned in Charles City, IA. 126 was sold to a J.W. Kerslake in 1971, and to its current owner in the early 90s. I'd rather not disclose his name, as he has not given permission to do so. 126 has been stored on the Dakota Southern since the late 90s, and was occasionally used on DKSR fan trips between its arrival and the early 2000s.
