Leave it to TGB 4th. to pontificate. Bottom line is that I tried to help Campbell/643 and had a deal close to have it go to AOS but he (Campbell) insisted on clinging to his looney tune ideas of its value and that killed the possibilities.

Sad but true.

If the worse case scenario plays out whereas the locomotive owner doesn't meet deadline to move said locomotive, why is everyone so quick to assume it will be scrapped? Perhaps that new owner/landlord would be willing to play ball and either auction the locomotive or settle upon a reasonable price. Money talks, except when dealing with owners that have a stronger emotional connection to an artifact than realistic business sense.

Mr. Rowland, with all due respect to the preservation action in the railway, your relationship with Mr. Campbell in the past may perhaps affect your objectivity in this case

Just wait for update is look the 643 move soon but where??? and she was sold or not???

That not the time to start a war

For what it's worth, there's still no indication on the Allegheny County real estate website that the property has actually been sold recently. The last sale is shown as in 2012.

http://www2.alleghenycounty.us/RealEsta ... 0043C00205

Moreover, data on the "Owner History" and "Tax Info" tabs on that webpage suggests that the property has been owned by either individuals in the Perl family or a shell corporation controlled by that family since at least 2008.

I've no dog in this fight. Merely looking for objective facts.

The 643 is still listed on Ebay so it appears that it hasn't been sold. The latest listing ends tomorrow morning.

There have been AT LEAST two serious offers on 643 over the years. Ross was actually part of one of them, and if you take the time to read some of the first hand accounts out there from others, he’s not telling you anything new. I don’t defend Ross without good reason, but having dealt directly with Glen his commentary is more qualified than 99% of the rest of us. Mr. Campbell is welcome to prove Ross wrong at any time.

Thank you, Kelly. Hopefully, that will quiet things down. The endless, repetitive speculations were getting to be a bit tiresome. I, for one, am happy to sit back and wait for the facts to be released for general consumption. I'm sure there are lessons to be learned here, but I don't feel a need to speculate on what they may be.

Patiently waiting off my soap box,

The major difference with that engine was that the owner himself was participating in the disinformation campaign.

Personally, I believe the locomotive is worth more to everybody as an intact, operable artifact. Destruction is quite possibly waiting in the wings, but really, without hard facts, none of us have a clue about its fate. We need to endorse preservation and work against destruction. That's all we can do.

The moral to this story is essentially, put your stuff on your property if you have that opportunity. If you must put your stuff on another person's property, you need to have a plan on how you will move your stuff if the property must be vacated.

Our museum has previously operated our restoration and storage operations on property belonging to others. We always made a conscious effort to plan so that we could vacate the properties which we did not own when needed. In fact, the first move the restoration shop made was to a rented City of Tucson facility that we knew would be demolished as part of a transportation infrastructure improvement plan in only a few years. While we were moving into that facility, we already had a property acquisition team looking for a permanent home for our facilities. That put us in a place when the City gave us the expected notice to vacate, we already had a plan and new home and vacated to the new location. Equipment that could not be immediately relocated to the new facility went to a property that a member owned and allowed us to occupy at no cost. That property is now being vacated as said member died and his widow wants to sell the property. Again, we had previously planned to move the equipment stored at that location, realizing that if the property were to be sold, we would be required to move out in a timely manner. Once we've removed the last vehicle, we will restore the property to a condition better than it was when we moved in-you won't even know we were there.

The other rule is to maintain a good relationship with the property owners and have local resources that you can call upon to make your move when required. We have good relations with a local towing company. They will often provide us with free towing or towing at cost.

And i don't defend Mr. Campbell too, Glen was the one to blame for the situation now. But all of this was in the past years maybe ,I said maybe, the situation was not the same in 2019

Until we hear otherwise, assume, as mentioned above, things are happening in the background, in a dark, smokey room, behind barred windows, with armed guards in front with plenty of anti-foaming agent in easy reach. Especially since any date and other information provided was always suspect from the start. We'll know when the time is right, arrangements completed and all parties on board.
