The problem is, so often when we take such hard-nosed reality for eternally granted, someone comes along to prove us wrong.

UP restored a Big Boy--despite pronouncements to the effect that the track wasn't up for it.

NS put steam back on the Horse Shoe Curve--in spite of CR/NS employee railfans saying it couldn't ever happen because of the heavy traffic.

A generation ago, NS hauled passengers on Saluda Grade--in spite of "never gonna happen again" pledges.

The collective "tea leaves" aren't right to forecast a BNSF steam program.

At the moment.

Hmm...wonder what the climate would be for BNSF to somehow "adapt" the 5631 for a renewed steam program....?

A BNSF steam program is a lovely dream. That's where it will likely remain. See the posting above about buying popcorn while the dramatics take place? Let's keep this in the realm of reality. I'd love to see it, but (politely) it isn't a likelihood.

I was thinking the "climate" for a BNSF steam program would best be represented by a desert with a tumbleweed blowing through, put that in the "Go Fund Me/Pipe Dream/Wishers" category Mr. Rimmasch mentioned.

This trainorders.com thread has current (July, 2020) photos of a temporary enclosure around 5631 as removal of the lagging is taking place:

Slightly related to Q 4-8-4 locomotives. A year or so back maybe more I saw some large main rods on a trailer. Looking at them I saw that they were off of
Q #5632. Not sure where they went or if the owner stored them? Thought it cool but sad at the same time. Luckily there are a few of the 4-8-4s around still. Regards, John.
