This is a true preservation success story in every sense of the word. Back in 2017 i wrote to Boulder County Parks about the 'caboose' at Heil Valley Ranch. i went to visit and realized we were looking at 3 NCS UP cabooses from three different decades plus several boxcars and a stock car on the ranch. On enquiring about the status of these derelict items i was told that potentially two cabooses and a stock car were available for preservation. High Plains Railroad Preservation moved two cabooses in 2018, 2095 from 1880 and 2267 from 1901 and left the unmoveable and collapsing 2199 from 1891 for the Parks Dept to deal with. I have been used as consult and help on its rehabilitation and thought you should see what a county can do with a dedicated team and a budget, its truly staggering and a great preservation success story. The stock car will get painted and lettered next and one of the boxcars will have the hiking and biking trail going right thru its open doors. Mike Pannell
