CSX also donated this recently-retired SW1500 (#1100, originally L&N 5000) to Kentucky Steam Heritage, which presumably will make moving 2716 around the shop much easier: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... ater&ifg=1

That was nice of them. These units are still in demand on the secondary market.

More on the amazing things being done by the people of Kentucky Steam Heritage.

I'd though the shop building in Ravena didn't have track leading into it.

Well, it does now!!

This was only ten days before the move.

A couple of weeks earlier.

Just after brush clearing. No sign of track then--because there wasn't any! Also, in the distance, at the left, you can see the remaining outline of a roundhouse. Knowing how early all this is, and at the risk of foaming over like a boiler with bad water, I have to ask, would it be too much to hope for that to be rebuilt someday?

Proposals for what may eventually rise.

Finally, Dave Albright, and perhaps others, wondered how the locomotive was moved with what looked like "complete running gear." Here we can see what was done--that the piston rods were disconnected. According to the caption, this was at the servicing stop in Boston.

And let's also remember this group rescued NKP 587, which is at Ravena as well.

Talk about an energetic bunch!!
