Southern #4501 will appear as L&N #1593 for the L&N Historical Society Annual Meeting held September 19-21.

I was curious if the locomotive would appear as #1593 for TVRM's Railfest and couldn't find a word about railfest on their website... but a "Founders Day" is now listed that sounds sort of like Railfest but for only 1 day. It doesn't mention #4501, just says "double headed steam" but it makes a big deal about a ribbon cutting for the new L&N Dining car.

Certainly be a cool thing to see an L&N Steam Locomotive with an L&N heavy-weight behind her!

Wonder if they'll keep her as #1593 for the Fall excursions... seemed to work well for #765... gives people a new reason to come out and ride.

Wow, sounds interesting!
Here’s what a similar class of L&N engines looked like, doesn’t look like much work will be needed other than paint and a different headlight:

So were headlights sold in different sizes? It does look like the L&N headlight is certainly larger than the standard Southern look. Also for example the headlights on the NdeM 4-8-4s always looked on the large size as well compared with the traditional US look.

How many of us remember 4501 standing in for another USRA light 2-8-2? That was in the movie "Fools Parade," back around 1970, and the engine was lettered as a B&O Q3. The number was even right--B&O's Q3s were Nos. 4500 to 4599. No, 4500 is still with us in the B&O Museum in Baltimore.
