We are proud to announce a partnership with the Maguire Family Foundation to bring a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-built steam locomotive to the Colebrookdale Railroad! Built for the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad in 1910, 2-8-0 #18 will make a wonderful stablemate to #5030. I hope that she returns to service. One of the best pullers I've ever been on.
Fun to fire too.

Thanks for sharing this news.

Interestingly, they now have potential ownership of one locomotive set up for coal firing (5030) and one for oil firing (18).

I wonder if they will convert 18 back to it's original coal firing set-up, convert 5030 to oil during restoration, or simply have 2 locomotives that operate on different fuels. I imagine having them set up for different fuels would make it harder to bulk order fuel (coal or oil).

It's probably too early to make predictions as to what they will do, but I found this interesting nonetheless.

If they are forward-thinking they will set both of them up to run on liquid biofuel.

Wonder what the financial situation looks like. Must be pretty sound to take on two large projects.

Have you seen what this group is capable of with limited time and resources?
Knowing them they’ll be doing double-headers in just a few years.

Colebrookdale and WW&F are showing everyone what can be done if the desire and organization is there!

I'm just wondering where the locomotives will be stored, and maintained / restored once they are on the property. Since currently everything is left out in the open; is Colebrookdale planning on building a shop complex like what Strasburg / Western Maryland has but on a rebuilt spur or siding?

Money is still needed. I don't see volunteers mining ore and creating sheet metal, making brass, cutting and creosoting ties, whatever. Even talented grant-request writers aren't enough.

I've been quietly speculating with some folks where they're hiding the Powerball lottery winner or whatever "Mr. Moneybags" that is bankrolling this.............

Money is easy to get with the proper connections.

Hope everyone is correct with respect to the group’s financial status. Restoring two sizable locomotives, let alone transporting them, sounds expensive.

For everyone here who has been trying it the wrong way for decades:

Please elaborate on this "easy to get" money................

In looking at their 2018 tax return (990) on line, they brought in about $2.3Million in 2018. About half was in grants, the other half service revenue. Pretty impressive.

Considering all work is volunteer based, that’s quite a killing.

They’re stealing all of the Michigan steam locomotives noooooo lol. Good to see both the 5030 and 18 go to what I would assume to good homes with good intentions. I wish them luck on their restorations.

Based on their posts on facebook I believe a lot of the work restoring passenger cars has been done by paid contractors.

Also note that some of the fundraisers they have done have been for equipment that never ended up in their possession. As noted in the IOU Pacific thread, they are doing a fundraiser
https://www.colebrookdalerailroad.com/g ... -gardiner/
to restore the Lion Gardiner, a car still in the possession of the IP trustee in Ohio. http://railfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2 ... s-copy.pdf
I really hope they follow through and take possession of the car, it is the last NYC heavyweight diner in existence, and I would bet the trustee won't be willing to pay rent to store it any longer.
