Because of my dial-up connection I haven't been able to look at the illustrations, but the description of the 1914 B & W forged steel watertube marine boilers fits the description of the boilers put in the Delta King and Delta Queen steamboats in 1928--they were/are surplus navy boilers that were brand-new then, although some 14 years old! Designed for 450 lbs steam, the DQ & DK ran them at 250 lbs (this is all from memory, so if im off a bit, sorry!), which is one reason they lasted clear until now. The proposal to sail the DQ again calls for new boilers, so these have apparently, run out of life, either mechanically or economically. On a locomotive, you just lift the boiler off the frame, on a steamboat, the dang'd things are buried in the hull under all that superstructure! Thanks Richard for the Baker stuff! Now does anyone have a Pyle National catalog? Especially the smaller stuff like junction boxes and such. |
