After the demise of the EnterTRAINment Line operating over Maryland Midland rails in the mid-90s and the subsequent auction of its equipment, the Walkersville Southern Railroad bought a raggedy ex-US Army troop sleeper car that had later been acquired by the Western Maryland before coming to the EnterTRAINment Line. Within months it was converted from a hollowed-out mess to the first coach on the then-new WS. Since those early days it has been converted to a kitchen car where food is prepared for WS dinner trains.

This week the author of an upcoming book on WS non-revenue equipment contacted me to see if I had the car's WM number before it was repainted. I don't, and so far I haven't found anyone at the WS who recalls what the number was either. I remember when it arrived at the WS but I don't recall if a number was even visible at the time.

I know of no online roster of EnterTRAINment Line equipment so I'm reaching out to RYPN readers to see if anyone knows what that number may have been or where I might look.

940952 was its CSX number. Cars like this on WM had 4 digit numbers, likely in the 3000s.

I can tell you probably where to find its original Pullman troop sleeper number if that is any help. It was painted on the inside of both trucks near the centre bearing on both our troop sleepers. However on one of our cars the number was different on each end, so the trucks were probably swapped out at one time.

Thanks! I'll take a look on the trucks when I'm up there again next Wednesday.

I checked with a WMRHS officer. His reply:

"The Western Maryland Railway number was #3004. Chessie later changed it to #940952. The original Pullman (WAA) number was 7478."

Cheers....

Thanks, John! I've forwarded it to the museum curator at the WS.
