I have the 11A and 11B supplements also, Eric, but those are mostly just the newer factory production paint colors for the later-fifties light trucks. The chips are very glossy which can make it a bit tough to get good pics of them without excessive reflections and, of course, they would best represent freshly-applied paint instead of something that's been out in the elements for awhile. They're also of relatively small size, about 1 x 2", but which are still large enough to hold up against other painted items for comparison.

The Alcos are my all-time favorites so I need to try to stay away from them right now for a good reason. This thread has been sort of haphazard enough already. LOL You did just get that Foo Fighters song stuck in my head for the time being though. Arrrgggh!!!

Plus, I've still got another Train Master pic (from my neck-of-the-woods, even) to post as soon as I get done with these Great Northern ads. This one's from 1953 and yes, the colors may not be exact which is true with some of the old Reading artwork I've seen as well...

Getting into the Don Draper era here with this one from '65... LOL

Even considering artistic license, all those ads are consistently olive so that's that and now I can post my other Train Master pic. LOL

This one's actually been processed quite a bit before I got to it and I even had to adjust the tilt but the colors look okay for old film and a warm and dreary winter day in southcentral PA. The photog was standing on the top of the bank down there behind the long garage building. The signal mast and siding into H.L. Meyer are long gone now but Track #4's still there...

Today's been one of those dull and dreary days also. I tried to get off the computer for a little bit but then I turned around and saw this. And don't give me any crap about my yellow-dyed train nerd hat, either. It's still one of those ongoing project-type works in progress... LOL

Anyway, this demonstrates what happens to Brewster Green in old (and new) pics. Not sure if you can reverse the process with UPS trucks, however...

This pic is actually pretty good to mess with. Tried to eyeball it up with the 93-2015 chip the best I could and now it has a more familiar look to it. The yellow and grandpa's jeans came out nice too. LOL

BTW, the Reading's second batch of SW900's delivered in 1961 were the last to come from the factory in Brewster Green...

Now very much intrigued by that yellow, I upped the saturation level just a little bit to better match how my camera perceives the Venetian Yellow, 93-1290, out in the sun.

It might be interesting to find out how the FT demo colors were selected and what they are in their current form. Do you have any info on that, Eric?

Repost on the paint chip!!!... LOL

The green on EMD 103 as painted today is Axalta/Dupont 1547 QH Pullman Green (aka: Great Northern Green and Old Pullman Green per Dupont records.)

The yellow is Axalta/Dupont 870327 GNB Lackawanna Yellow

Both colors came from Dupont records and were matched to EMD records.

Per Dupont they frequently renamed/renumbered the exact same paint colors for different railroads so as not to "offend".

Locomotives were painted in colors from the Dupont Industrial Finish lines.

C&O1309 - Couple questions....

Do you know when the paint was matched?

Can you provide the EMD and Dupont numbers used to match?

I’ll add that info to the list.

Thanks.

Deleted those emails years ago.

The EMD part numbers for the paint used on 103A and 103B were one off numbers created by EMD when the units were painted for EMDs 50th.. The numbers below are off the EMD styling diagram created 8/29/89.

Aluminum - 40008865
Gold - 40018831
Green - 40018830

When the decision was made to repaint EMD 103B and later EMD 103A, EMD and Dupont were both consulted to get the colors correct. Dupont came back with colors listed above so that is what I ordered and used to paint them in 2014. In the paint shop we found the colors were an exact match to what EMD used in 1989, even the gold/yellow.

I cannot speak to what was used in 1939.

C&O1309 -

Historically, I have Lackawanna Yellow as DuPont 54388 (different from yours) and old Pullman as DuPont 1547 (same). Those numbers should have been valid up to 2014. After that, Axalta changed the coding system and there is no cross reference.

Just so I understand and am absolutely clear about your info.... Are the three 4xxxxxxx numbers DuPont, newer Axalta or EMD numbers?.

Again, thanks.

On the styling drawing they are listed as EMD part numbers.

I was told 4xxxxxxx part numbers were internal non-production EMD numbers.

Thanks and welcome as well, C&O1309!!! FYI, both 1290 Yellow and 2015 Green date previous to 1939. 1290 was listed as a fleet color as of 1969 and 2015 was still listed when Axalta took over.

With a nice bright sun and high sky, I took a noon-time pic of the chip catalog's Page 7 today. Since it came out okay, I thought I'd just label the yellows for a few suspected and known railroads this time for a little visual perspective... LOL

You guys!!! LOL

"Lackawanna Yellow", huh? Now I have a theory as to why I had to turn up the saturation on the EMD #103 pic to match the 1290 chip.

Could it be 93-242 is another number for that particular color which I was calling the pale imitation gold? The Bachman pretzel can and Yellow Blaze Dodge Dart I posted earlier are back on Page 7 of the thread along with a two-tone Power Wagon on Page 1.

I was hoping to find at least one railroad which used it...
