Bell Green on the left, the very similar and slightly greener WE5741 card in the middle, and Dodge Truck Judson Green on the right. I believe we can safely eliminate Judson Green as a CN color right now...

As I wait patiently for the next two fenceposts to properly dry, it would appear the Katy did not use John Deere's classic 262 Green but you guys might be pleasantly surprised by which railroad(s) actually did. I know I was. JD 262 Green does not match DuPont 6202 Green but it is the equivalent of another fleet green which we'll see here later today at some point.

VanSickle's Pre-1952 Oliver Green is an exact match for DuPont 1317, as it should be, so that would definitely be a viable off-the-shelf choice for use as the sixties-era REA Express green.

In the meantime, John Deere's Patio Red is listed as 2622 Scarlet, my primary suspect for the Reading's primary red...

Soooo, how about "John Deere Cascade Green"? LOL The lower card is from the NPRHA set and better matches the WE5758 chip in the Martin-Senour catalog...

From 1946, here are Scarlet and Swift Red with alternate DuPont code numbers...

Alrighty then, just to prove to you guys how much I value the objective truth above almost everything else including my own self-pride, I'm switching my official choice for the 1973 Reading Green Machine green from 6202 to 5316, a.k.a. New Oliver Green. LOL

Here it is on this lovely dreary morning combined with 5248 Lemon "Safety Always" Yellow from the fan deck and if you're looking to draw mass hoards of hummingbirds into your back yard, native Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea) is the best bet there...

Might as well take another quick look at the yellow now... LOL

As I may or may not have mentioned before, at some point, Royal Dutch Shell switched from the older version of Lemon Yellow (WE5915) to the slightly lighter and brighter more modern version (WE5919) also known as Seagrave Yellow. Being that there's no reason the Reading wouldn't have done the same, it'll be good just to keep this one in mind for the time being.

I'll look for more numbers when I can but WE5919 does cross with PPG 82008 according to PaintRef. Here's a Seagrave Yellow Dodge brush pumper and the WE5919 card is at the bottom along with my New Oliver Green fencepost and the other two fan deck samples shown previously...

I'm still trying to figure out what the heck is going on with WE5915 and WE5919 and whether they could be the exact same color or not. The Martin-Senour cross-reference has DuPont 5248 Seagrave Yellow listed as MS11618 which is WE5919.

The alternate DuPont number for 93-5248 Shell Yellow is 93-28713 which comes back as MS8656 and was superseded by the time my Martin-Senour catalog was published. Looking at the remaining 86xx numbered chips in the catalog, it could be placed where WE5915 is located now but that would be a bit of a stretch.

Based upon the sure-fire info from the cross-reference, I'll use WE5919 as Lemon Yellow going forward until I can get this minor little dilemma straightened out. WE5915 and WE5919 would fall in to what might be considered an acceptable deviation range in actual color, however, and if they really are duplicates, that wouldn't surprise me, either.

Looks like my scanner got mad at me after I called it a piece of crap, also... LOL

Here's what a typical Reading SW-1500 should've looked like during Tropical Storm Agnes although I still think that WE5839 card would benefit from a hair more yellow in it... LOL

I was thinking the low-numbered 93-036 Brown is probably the most logical choice for that darker underbody color since it is one of the oldest fleet browns. 036 Brown matches WE5594 in the fan deck and was called "Gordon Brown" by Ditzler/PPG...

Still keeping an eye out for good red caboose pics. This is #92925 at some point in the early-to-mid sixties...

The roof, platforms and truck side frames on steel cabeese should be the standard Reading freight car brown as I understand it. Match that and you have it. The underbody was most likely black asphaltic car cement. The cement collects a lot of dirt and looks dark brownish.

Hopefully, we'll get it all figured out sometime before the end of civilization as we know it, Eric. LOL The "Hersheypark caboose", as gifted by the Reading back in 1969, was darker brown underneath. This pic is apparently from 1970 and shows #92938 at its original location in the park...

This is what Scarlet over both Chevy Truck Coppertone and 036 Brown looks like so we'll see. Chevy Truck Autumn Brown is the chip in the upper right. GMC Mahogany Brown in the lower left is the Northern Pacific boxcar red color...

Rawleigh engines are listed as using 036 Brown. There's a little bit of it left on this one...

Just to be clear on this, I always thought the roofs were darker brown also but #94067 on the cover of the John W. Hall Reading cabooses book looks like it's the more reddish freight car color as well...

Pete, you can count on Reading Shops using the brown paint they had in stock. Note the Taylor trucks resplendent in brown.
