I have done some internet scouring, but other than a few isolated collections or individual cars I have not come up with any semi-definitive list of surviving Edwards Railcars.

If anyone has one or is aware of a good resource for these cars, I would greatly appreciate the intel.

My curiosity is mainly piqued by the recent sale of the car in Alabama.

I don't know if this is what you have in mind, but there's bits and pieces of one in Guatemala City at the Museo de FEGUA. It's 3 foot gauge, empty carbody on wheels.

There was a book published in 2006: https://www.amazon.com/Edwards-Railway- ... 0970354401 The description says that "Poole follows the Edwards cars up to the present day," which may mean it has a disposition of the cars (I would guess that it does) but that may also refer to the short-lived restart using the Edwards name: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26581 So it may have a detailed roster with current dispositions, etc., or it may be one of those generic "romance of railroading" books we all have received as gifts, I cannot say. Caveat emptor.

The Poole book has lots of historical information about the original Ewards Company and includes a roster of the cars Edwards produced 1917-1942. The roster includes disposition where known. There is also a 6 page section about the 12 survivors known to the author.
The book also includes detailed sections about HP Edward’s railroad ventures after his time with the Edwards Railway Motor Car Company and the recent Edwards Company.

It looks like there was a restored and operable M25 at the FORT MADISON, FARMINGTON AND WESTERN Railroad in Iowa about 20 years ago, but it appears it was auctioned off and then dropped off the map.

Does anyone know what became of it?

There is a Edwards car from the Tucson, Cornelia, & Gila Bend Railroad at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Nevada. It has been there since 1985, it is operational, And runs regularly. Not to be confused with the Edwards at the V&T Railroad in Virginia City Nevada

Well, it looks like there some incomplete info out there...
The Iowa/Farmington auction was Dave Miners estate...
Miner did the rebuild of several cars, etc...
One was the M201, which just sold from Kershaws estate...Miner rebuilt it ,to look like an Edwards car, to run in Mount Dora Florida in '98....

Miner ALSO had several other car bodies... 2 were actually Edwards cars...
One went to Craggy Mountain...it's ex Burlington 9505
One went to that Bay operation, which then sold it to V&T...it was Miners demo car, it's ex Burlington 9507...aka M 507 , not sure if they kept this number....
This car was technically operable, but the drive train was not original, it was an interestingly cobbled arrangement using PCC trucks and, I believe, a Chevy gas engine/trans...it had no reverse gearbox, so three speeds forward, one reverse, with obvious results....
The other body that I recall, was another Philly Stratford car, like the M201...but they made it look more trolley like for a place in Oklahoma....

So, sounds like the relatively intact Edwards cars that remain in the USA are....

- M201 recently sold at auction in AL
- A Louisiana & Northwestern body sold a few years ago (2016)
- CBQ 9505 in NC (is this the M25 from Iowa? or is the V&T car M25?)
- CBQ 9507 in NV
- M201 in OK, possibly cosmetically changed
- The TC&GB car at Nevada State

Plus the reproduction located at D&GV in WV.

I've seen there are multiple shells remaining, such as the Tallulah Falls car that sold at auction earlier this year.

From a broader doodlebug perspective (since the Edwards numbers are so few...) I am able to find:

- PRR 4666 operating at Allentown & Auburn
- PRR 4662 operating at Wilmington & Western
- PRR 4668 privately owned in Michigan
- Erie 5012 at the Ohio Railway Museum (almost sold 2015... wonder what happened?)
- a scattering of Santa Fe cars around the west...
- the various Galloping Geese in Colorado
- The wooden Brill motorcar operating at Strasburg

Is that really it for self-propelled interurbans and the like, or am I missing any?

The L&NW car that I'm thinking of was not an Edwards...it's a Brill model 75 and is now part of a restaurant in Louisiana...
The M201 and the other Stratford car were also Brill cars....

For actual Edwards cars that I know of:

Washoe and Neversweat Model 5? In Butte, mining museum. ex BA&P.
M100 Skunk train, model 20...

There's probably at least a couple more that I'm forgetting, etc....

the doodlebug at Laws Railroad Museum is not an Edwards car, its a narrow gauge Brill Model-55.

Colebrookdale Railroad has an operating Brill Model -55, gas mechanical. Built new in 1930 for Sperry, then sold to Remington Arms factory, then retired and sold to a group connected with the Valley Railroad, sold to Edwards Rail Car, restored/made operable, ran on the Mount Dora Scenic Rwy. for a bit, then sold to Black River & Western, ran on the Phillipsburg branch, then stored operable in Ringoes, NJ, sold to Colebrookdale RR.

It's a shame not many operators picked up orders for Edwards cars because there are plenty of small operations that could benefit from one.

If I could indulge in a foamer fantasy for a moment, I'd have one made for the South Carolina Railroad Museum. We still run locomotive-hauled trains, but a doodlebug would be ideal for the summer season or for our BBQ Dinner Trains (where dinner is not served on board, but could be possible with the M-20 Diner variant).
