How many Canadian National MLWs of any model (original, rebuilt, or modified) are still around (in operation, storage, parts units, museums, abandoned)?

Are you inquiring about a particular locomotive design or everything built at MLW?

Diesels? There are no more HR616s left per reports, there are 1-2 HR412s, numerous M420s, a few RS18s, several FPA4s and FPB4s, not sure what else.

This is an interesting question. I am curious too, but too lazy to actually do the legwork. If someone such as the original poster simply runs through the link below maybe they can report back.

I keep an Alco/MLW list for NY state. It's a small sample for CN survivors overall, but here is what we have in NY:

CN 2304 - MLW M636 - now WNYP 636 - stored Olean NY.
CN 2312 - MLW M636 - now WNYP 637 - stored Olean NY.
CN 2338 - MLW M636 - now RRPX 2338 - stored Olean NY.

CN 2568:1 - MLW M420W - now NYLE 3568 - stored Titusville PA.

CN 6758 - Alco FPA-2u - now NYLE 6758 - stored, occasionally operated, Gowanda NY
CN 6764 - Alco FPA-4 - now NYLE 6764 - stored, occasionally operated, Gowanda NY

CN 3127 - MLW RS18 - now DLWR 1801 - operating Batavia NY

CN 8181 - MLW S4 - now C&CV 3051 - operating, Cooperstown NY
CN 8223 - MLW S7 - now C&CV 3052 - operating, Cooperstown NY

There are quite a few CP MLW's as well:

An update to my previous post.

After several months of fundraising, M420 no. 2573 has been acquired by the Adirondack Railroad. The locomotive, now marked as ADIX 3573, is currently in transit from Phillipsburg, NJ to its new home up in New York.
