A quick reminder that several years ago, there was a discussion about April First "joke" posts, and the sense of the board members was that they are not appreciated. Moderators have been known to delete them from the board... (although I did near a rumor that Amtrak will be adopting "Precision Scheduled Railroading"...)

Your always friendly moderator...

Happy to see more and more forums adopt this. Its just not funny anymore. Its a "holiday" that can just go away as far as I am concerned.

And meanwhile Randy threw in a "Precision Scheduled Railroading" joke.

Well, it's an unfortunate joke now but back in the day, train 627 from NY rated an F-M TrainMaster. You would hear the drumming of an OP lifting the train out of the station and check the clock: 10.24 PM; on time. Every day.

That wasn't Precision Scheduled Railroading; it was normal operation.

Of course, Amtrak NEC was 100% on time one month with the Metroliners (AEM-7 + 219XX Amfleet era). I was riding them then and never missed a local connection over the course of several years. In fact people in Washington were astonished I was there so early from home.

It appears that the top post in this thread has violated its own rule, and thus must be deleted itself............

A priest, a minister, and a rabbit walk into a bar. The rabbit says, "I think I'm a typo."

I think I'm type O as well.

Although it has been a while since I've given blood...

I am afraid the time for jokes has past. As has been proven many times there are too many people who are unaware enough that they take them as real. Many years ago a local late night comedy show aired a fake story on April 1st that a local tower had fallen. The graphic was a photograph laid on its side with a banner running saying this was the April Fools show. Within moments the station was swamped with calls and doctors on the other side of the state were mounting a relief party. This was before the internet or cell phones so it took more than a key stroke or a swipe to pass the story along.

The legend is always better/worse than the reality. Even Orson Welles' "infamous" radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds in 1938 did not actually incite the supposed "national hysteria/panic" it was alleged to have in several books and articles.

Something to consider in light of current news media coverage..........
