The Sleeping Car Duluth is being restored at the Mid-Continent railway Museum. The wood car is one of about 25 cars existing from the Barney & Smith,Car Builders.

It never fails to surprise me the things that turn up on E-bay; according to the Spring 2020 car report, a corner sink marked for Barney & Smith was recently purchased for the restoration.

Although things have been slowed down by the Covid-19 pandemic, they continue to work on the cars at the museum.

Hi ted66,
Thanks for the kind words on the efforts of the Restoration Dept. Please forgive the excruciating exactitude but the work being done is what can be done at home. For now the Museum is still completely closed but as you noted - progress continues!........mld

The MC restoration dept is reopening June 6th with first work weekend since shutting down to stop the killer virus. Pete is correct the work has continued but most of it was done at home, home shops or contractors off property. More conflicting info then the CDC. Regards, John.

Update on restoration progress of the Duluth is referenced at the link below. The recently announced John H. Emery Rail Heritage Trust grant is going to do a lot of good for this car!

I have been making a annual contribution to the DULUTH restoration fund by making a direct contribution from my annual retirement fund disbursement. Not big as the grant mentioned above; but, a very helpful amount.

Similarly, I have been making a contribution to the restoration of the 1901 Northern Pacific parlor car 1799 at the Northwest Railway Museum.

These cars represent the high point of wooden car construction before the coming of steel constructed cars.
