| Post subject: | Journal Box Drawings of West Side Lumber Co. Trucks |
So far my research for a project I'm working on hasn't been going too well. I'm trying to find drawings of journal boxes as used on West Side Lumber cars. I know there were a few variations of the trucks that West Side Lumber used, and while I have some dimensions at this point to ensure the accuracy of the O scale trucks a friend and I are working on I could really use drawings of those journal boxes. Unfortunately, the drawings I keep finding are side views of the trucks themselves which doesn't help me on the journal boxes to ensure they're as accurate as we can get them. If someone is aware of such drawings or can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. |

Try the Society for the Preservation for Carter RR Resources at http://www.spcrr.org/ . Knights Foundry did the castings for West Side see https://knightfoundry.com/ They may have patterns for the boxes you are looking for. Good luck on the project. |

The SPCRR at Ardenwood has patterns for both 10 & 15 ton Carter journal boxes. The most common WSLC journal box for flat cars was the 15 ton "Carter" as used by several west coast builders... The connected log cars used a variety of larger journal boxes from Seattle Car and Foundry and AC&F... I had access to the Knight Foundry patterns... I never found any West Side patterns... apparently all were returned after casting parts. Many were found in the basement of one of the WSLC buildings and 100+ were salvaged and saved by the SPCRR. |
