I just heard about this so I thought i’d share it here. The Cincinnati Scenic Railway wants to acquire and restore ex Chessie GP30 no. 6955 from NRE. Here’s the link for the GoFundMe if anyone wishes to help them out with the cause! I’d hate to see a Chessie 30 scrapped in 2020.

I find this just a bit odd that 1) the LM&M (Cincinnati Scenic), a for-profit company is asking for donations to purchase a locomotive (and the Save The Chessie Facebook page claims to be a non-profit) 2) There is no mention of this on the LM&M site I could find and 3) there are no current photos of the locomotive.

On the other hand, the LM&M does have at least one GP-30 this unit would look good with.

It's them, I posted this earlier in the NRE thread:
https://www.facebook.com/savethechessie ... f=mentions
You can see the unit here starting at around 4:10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qso1gQHst8M

I'm not sure about their financial dealings, but they have preserved a NKP GP30 previously. I think the for-profit runs the excursions, using equipment supplied by the non-profit. I don't have the tax law expertise to comment on whether that makes sense.
