CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A train on the Texas State Railroad has derailed.

A spokeswoman with the Texas State Railroad confirmed the derailment and said at this time, there are no reports of any injuries.

A passenger aboard the train sent a picture of the derailment and said he was told they were about 10 miles from Palestine.

The train was eventually able to make its way back to the Palestine depot, according to a passenger on the train. They said the train was shaking on the way back, but no injuries were reported. The derailed cars were left behind on the track.

The Texas State Railroad later issued a press release which said at 2:35 p.m., the excursion run derailed on the return journey from Rusk to Palestine. They said all passengers were safely deboarded from the train and transported to the Palestine depot.

The release said a full inspection and investigation is underway. It said the damage to their historic equipment is relatively minor. Manpower is being organized to rerail the equipment and get the repairs done are being assembled.

The release said scheduled trains through the end of September have been canceled at this time.

Appears fairly minor, looks like they possibly picked a switch?

That said, I'm guessing it was a pretty scary ride for the folks on the top level of that dome car!
