Deteriorating conditions at Severn Valley Railway have forced workers to launch an appeal for much-needed improvements.

Volunteers and paid staff at the popular Worcestershire attraction, which runs along the Severn Valley, say conditions at the Bridgnorth site are ‘difficult’ and ‘challenging’.

In particular, they say the main issues are the badly aged roof, outdated lighting systems and a lack of methods to move heavy items safely and efficiency.

The heritage railway, also based in Kidderminster, says its £425,000 appeal will enable essential restoration and maintenance work on steam locomotives to continue in a safe environment for decades to come.
