This is an unusual form of outreach:

My observations, after over two decades in the city:

I know a couple of the people lobbying the city for a permanent dirt-bike park, and they include older white motorcyclists. But apparently some of the appeal of riding is the illicit "outlaw" behavior.
And one of the areas that has long had a problem with illicit/unauthorized dirt bike riding in the past has been the former B&O Mount Clare shops/yard properties down the "First Mile" from the Museum grounds.

It will be interesting to see how well this works.

Have any other museums here done outreach of this fashion?

I've long thought the "give them a place" people clearly forgot their rebellious teenage years.

Much of the appeal is the outlaw nature of it.

So I don't think this track will really solve the epidemic of lawless dirt bike riding in Baltimore.

But what it might do is provide some structure and a positive influence in some of the riders lives, and that'll be worth it.

I wonder how much a museum's liability insurance would go up as a result of allowing something like this to happen.

As critical of this institution as I am for the horrid condition they've allowed ex-Rdg. locomotive AFT 1 ( Rdg. 2101) to deteriorate into they do deserve credit for thinking outside the box.

I'm on their email list and nearly every day get a blast announcing another something that will be happening at their facility ( i.e. car shows, bake sales, farmer's market, hide & seek games, etc.,etc.) to help bring folks in.

Let's hope all their efforts pay off.
